Celtic Harp |
|
Trained as a pianist in traditional classical
repertoire & technique, Clara came to the harp later
in her musical career. Awarded two Individual
Artist Grants by the Kentucky Arts Council, as well
as an Encouragement Grant from the Kentucky
Foundation for Women to assist Clara with her study
of and compostion for the Celtic harp, Clara has
made presentations and performed in concert with a
variety of artists on this beloved instrument. |
 |
| Among
her most “traveled concerts” are “Folksongs from the
English Speaking World”, original arrangements for
voice and harp, written by Clara and performed with
soprano Gail Morfesis ; and “Women’s Songs” a
presentation of works old and new, for piano and
voice, interspersed with poetry and prose readings.
Clara introduced the Celtic Harp into her
performance discipline around 1990. Two significant
works have resulted from her passion for the Celtic
harp, both sponsored by The Kentucky Arts Council:
“Soothing Melodies on Ancient Modes”: an
exploration of the use and effect of harp music’s
ethos in ancient Greek culture and philosophy; and
“Jubal’s Song” a compilation of original works for
SATB choir and harp, illustrating the use of the
harp in ancient Hebrew society and temple worship.
Both projects resulted in live performances, CD
recordings and published manuscripts of the original
compositions. Clara is an avid composer of original
works for SATB choir, organ, and Celtic harp, having
written a variety of arrangements for these musical
genres as well. A catalog of these works can be
viewed on her website
